New Moon Eclipse in Leo: Your Evolution Will Not Be Televised
A Total Solar Eclipse in Leo
On Wednesday, August 12 at 12:37 PM CDT, we will have a Total Solar Eclipse at 20°02′ Leo, the home of the Sun.
Leo is the zodiacal archetype of the Lion. Fixed fire. The eternal flame.
At its best, Leo is associated with royalty, loyalty, leadership, creativity, fun, joy, childlike wonder, and boundless love.
At its worst, Leo can be attention-seeking, domineering, full of itself, and a touch like this.
Although the literal star of the show, the Sun has assembled a royal court for the event consisting of ever-expanding Jupiter and, now, Mercury.
Mercury, having had an extended stay in caring Cancer and finally emerged from retrograde shadow, has something to say loudly.
At 5° Leo, it now opposes Pluto at 3° Aquarius, close to the seat where Jupiter sat during the infamous “Barbault Basket” alignment.
Mercury in Leo wants to say the damn thing boldly.
Pluto in Aquarius fears being outcast from the in-crowd.
And as Jupiter was supported, this Mercury is supported by Uranus in Gemini and Neptune in Aries.
Now disposited by Mercury in fire, Uranus can move quickly — and perhaps with more certainty than it should.
But Neptune in Aries now faces opposition from Venus, at home in lovely Libra.
Less stressed now that she’s out of Virgo, Venus in Libra wants harmony, justice, and to remind everyone she doesn’t need a filter.
The opposition with Neptune in Aries can feel magnetic, hypnotic, and soul-destined — whether it actually is or not.
I could continue to tell you how both Neptune in Aries and Mercury in Leo are the apex points of two separate kites involving Venus in Libra, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius, who are also in an air Grand Trine.
And your eyes would roll over.
I could tell you that the sky is loaded with fire and air, with the only water coming from Mars at fall in Cancer, squeezed into a cardinal T-square with Venus and Neptune.
We want to enter the arena…
…but we may internally doubt whether we can win the battle once we get there.
And with Mars in Cancer dispositing Neptune in Aries — while Mars itself answers to the Moon in Leo — the fantasy can feel fated, dramatic, potentially defensive, and emotionally soaked.
Jupiter in Leo is also approaching a trine with Saturn in Aries, offering real potential to give expansion structure.
But Saturn, too, answers to Mars in Cancer — and Mars answers to the eclipsed Moon.
Even the architecture of what comes next is being built through the emotional material this eclipse is asking us to confront.
And I would typically tell you all of that if this were a typical New Moon in Leo.
But it’s not.
It’s anything but.
